Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy HBOT

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) is a medical treatment where you breathe 100% oxygen in a pressurized chamber. Increased air pressure inside the chamber helps your lungs take in more oxygen, which can promote healing. At NIHA, we offer mild hyperbaric oxygen therapy in a soft chamber —a safe and gentle way to support healing and recovery.

HBOT Enhances Natural Healing

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy saturates the patient’s plasma with oxygen resulting in increased oxygen delivery to tissues. Specifically, hyperbaric oxygen therapy promotes healing through enhancing white blood cell activity and initiating formation of new peripheral vascular vessels and nerve endings in damaged areas.

While HBOT is FDA-approved for conditions like wound healing, decompression sickness, and carbon monoxide poisoning, integrative medicine physicians may also use it to promote tissue repair, stimulate the growth of new blood vessels and nerve endings, and support cognitive function and brain health. It can be used adjunctively to treat a number of conditions including soft tissue injury, traumatic brain injury, chronic fatigue, cerebral palsy, stroke, multiple sclerosis, Lyme disease and cancer.

By saturating your plasma with oxygen, HBOT enhances white blood cell activity, reduces inflammation, and improves oxygen delivery throughout the body—especially to areas of the body that need healing.

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy is FDA approved for the following conditions:

  • Chronic wounds and diabetic ulcers
  • Radiation damage
  • Refractory osteomyelitis
  • Decompression sickness
  • Carbon monoxide and smoke inhalation

Additional Supportive Uses for Healing and Recovery:

HBOT has shown potential in treating many off label conditions as it can promote tissue repair and reduce inflammation.
