The Ancient Art of Colon Cleansing, or Colon Hydrotherapy

by | May 16, 2011 | Colon Hydrotherapy, Digestive Health, Integrative Health Blog

The practice of intestinal cleansing is not a new one, not by a long shot. Flushing away excess waste through enemas has been around since ancient times in Egypt. The practice of administering enemas was recorded in the medical document “Eber Papyrus” in 1500 B.C.

Scientists discovered in the 19th century that bacteria located in the colon could be cleansed and toxins could be eliminated from the body by creating a gravity-fed flushing system.

In 1908, a Russian biologist named Elie Metchnikoff received the Nobel Prize for his research connecting the build up of toxins in the body with disease. He also discovered that bad bacteria in the colon can acutally shorten a person’s life.

Sir W. Arbuthnot wrote in his book titled, The Prevention of Diseases Peculiar to Civilization, in 1929 that he “was never aware of a single case of cancer that was not preceded by prolonged intestinal stasis.”

In more recent times, Dr. John Kellogg averted surgery to treat gastrointestinal disease by using colon hydrotherapy with thousands of patients. He is also acknowledged as the forerunner in promoting cleansing of the body naturally through colon hydrotherapy and a high fiber diet, including many fresh vegetables.

Dr. Kellogg reported in the Journal of American Medical Association in 1917, “We are literally poisoning ourselves into illness when the bowel evacuation is deficient.”

In the 1920’s and ’30’s, colon hydrotherapy devices were used routinely in hospitals and doctors offices in the United States.

You may want to give colon hydrotherapy a try. The health benefits of this therapy have been known by our ancestors for centuries. You have nothing to lose except old, impacted waste that’s been embedded deep within your colon for years.
