Manual Regulation Therapy MRT

Manual Regulation Therapy, or MRT, is the synthesis of manual therapies, body-mind therapy, and biological and energy medicine. MRT recognizes the human being as a connected whole, and addresses the entire system, understanding that a change in one area of the body can affect changes in other areas of the body.

Our bodies are part of an amazing interconnected system known as the extra cellular matrix, the body’s communication highway, and the area of the body that is impacted can affect change in other areas of the body. An example is an old traumatic event that human beings experience throughout a lifetime and never completely integrate, which leads to maladaptation. This maladaptation can lead to creating internal tensions through the extracellular matrix that influence distal regions of the human organism. Our holistic approach and treatment methodology takes this into account, and works to pinpoint and treat the underlying maladaptive areas of the body unlike traditional medicine which may focus only on the trauma area.

MRT is evidence-based medicine, and has been extensively validated through the use of Heart Rate Variability (HRV), which is widely recognized as objective and reproducible.  MRT has been extremely effective in a host of healing experiences such as chronic pain, consussion and TBI (traumatic brain injury), PTSD, and more.

MRT is based on the following premise:

  1. The human body behaves as a colloid fluid structure, existing in a constant state of flux, moving between properties.  A colloid is a substance or structure that sometimes behaves like a solid and sometimes behaves like a liquid. The Colloid Fluid Model (CFM) envisions all aspects of the body—muscle, bone, blood, organs—as essentially colloidal in nature, with the body’s tissues capable of dynamically shifting from a more solid state to a more fluid state and back again. This occurs on every level, whether micro or macro, local or systemic.
  1. The Autonomic Nervous System (ANS) both influences and is influenced by the colloid nature of the body.  The impact of a state of distress in one part of the body may negatively impact another part. Rigidity in one area—often the result of trauma or disease—will inevitably impact that of another. Thus, subtle changes in the ANS can have a profound impact on the CFM and the body as a whole.
  1. The commonality of the different modalities is their impact on the Colloidal Fluid Model (CFM) and thus the ANS.
  1. Treating the system as a whole -and treatment of the whole person- provides significant impact to one’s overall health and wellbeing.

What to Expect with Manual Regulation Therapy (MRT)

MRT begins with a body scan (motility test), which is an assessment to find increased levels of rigidity in the organism. The body scan is guided by the extracellular matrix, the communication highway of our bodies, as well as other indicators. Once the primary locations are identified, we use these areas as an entry point into treating the patient’s system, using the modality that is best suited to that system or rigidity. As the rigidity is released, we move to the next region of rigidity.

MRT recognizes the human being as a whole, single organism that is impacted by outside stimulation both traumatic and subtle. Treating the system as a whole through MRT often provides a more significant impact than treating using individual modalities.

MRT does not negate the importance of system-specific therapies for acute diseases and disorders, but rather complements them. Indeed, when patients reach an unsatisfactory level of maximum medical improvement using allopathic and individual therapies, they often experience a significant shift using MRT. By influencing the ANS, MRT either allows the body to work toward an ideal homeostasis on its own, or allows the positive influence of acute treatments.

What Conditions Can MRT Help?

MRT has been shown to be extremely effective in a host of healing experiences including:

  • Concusssion and Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI)
  • PTSD
  • Chronic Pain
  • Asthma
  • Unresolved MVA
  • Fussy Baby Syndrome or colic
  • Temporal Mandibular Joint (TMJ) Dysfunction.
  • Post-surgical scars
  • Food sensitivities
  • Chronic ear infections

Patients may come to MRT after months or years of conventional treatments that were able to bring them just so far. Sometimes they want to explore the synergies of MRT with the treatments they are currently undergoing. And sometimes they come for one health issue, such as neck pain, but end up with another health issue also resolved.

The 4 Modalities with Manual Regulation Therapy

Manual Regulation Therapy (MRT) engages the four modalities or treatments in order to return the body to its natural state.

CraniolSacral Therapy

CraniolSacral therapy applies specific, gentle pressure in order to treat imbalances, poor alignment, or impaired motility in the body. These therapeutic movements are gentle, never high-velocity, rough, or invasive.

CraniolSacral therapy can be beneficial in treating chronic pain, depression, and other dysfunctions. It is useful in treating infants for birth trauma, colic, “fussy baby syndrome,” chronic ear infections, and “failure to thrive.” It is also often helpful for children with learning disabilities and allergies. Elderly people often find that CraniolSacral therapy yields greater flexibility, energy, and functionality.

Visceral Manipulation

Physical, emotional, and metabolic stress can cause the ligaments and fascia to tighten, which in turn creates restriction and pain in all that it surrounds.

The gentle interventions of Visceral Manipulation can release this imprint and allow the tissues to regain a more normal state, alleviating tension, pain, and stress.

Myofacial Release

The myofascia is composed of tough bands of connective tissue that hold the muscles in place and attach the muscles to the bones and tendons.

Physical and emotional stress can cause the fascia to tighten, which in turn can create restriction and pain in all that it attaches to and surrounds.

Through the use of Myofascial Release techniques, the therapist can assess the degree and locus of tension and then apply specific, gentle pressure to facilitate release of the tension.

Body Mind Healing

Emotional trauma may be said to be “stored” in the viscera and fascia (connective tissue) in what we call “imprints,” that formed to protect us during the original traumatic event.

These areas of restriction can be thought of as bounded “pockets” of energy patterns in the body—which radiate their negative effects outward from a center-point. Energetic Imprints may cause chronic pain, inhibit a full range of emotional expression, create illogical fears, and reduce physical performance.
